Information we handle and why
| Category and source | How it is used |
|---|---|
| Contact information and correspondence. Our contact form requests your name, email address, and message. Correspondence also includes the information you send directly by email. | To receive, review and answer your message, handle follow-up questions and identify abusive or unwanted submissions. The form sends page context such as the page title, page URL, referring-page information and page/form identifiers along with the submission. |
| Comments and discussion subscriptions. Article comment features request a name and email address, with an optional website address, comment content and any attachment you choose to submit. An optional discussion subscription collects an email address and your selected follow-up or reply-notification preference. | To publish and moderate discussions, manage abuse and spam, and send discussion notifications you request. A display name, website link, comment and attachment can be visible publicly. Do not put information into a comment or attachment that you do not want others to see. |
| Website requests and interactions. Browser requests communicate information such as IP address, browser/device details, requested URLs, referring-page information and request time to the systems receiving them. A site search sends your search terms in the request URL. | To deliver pages and search results, operate forms and discussions, diagnose errors, secure the site and prevent abuse. External resources and verification services receive the request information sent to their own servers. |
| Privacy-request information. Your reply address, request type, state where relevant, representative information and other limited details needed to handle the request. | To review, fulfill or respond to the request or appeal, verify identity or authority where permitted, and keep records needed to administer applicable privacy duties. California sale/sharing opt-outs are not subject to identity verification. |
Built-in savings calculator
The built-in savings calculator calculates results in your browser. Its calculation code does not submit the numbers you enter to our server. This applies to that calculator; ordinary page requests and the separate services described in this policy still operate when you visit the page.
Information to leave out
Do not send passwords, financial-account or government-identification numbers, identity documents, medical records, diagnoses or other sensitive details through general contact forms, comments or an initial privacy request. If you attach a file where that option is offered, check its contents and embedded metadata before submitting it. General financial or health-related articles do not require you to provide personal financial or health details.
Recipients and external services
Information reaches different recipients according to the feature you use:
- Website hosting, delivery and security services: request, device and operational information needed to deliver the site, protect it and maintain its systems.
- Form and email systems: contact details, messages and submission context used to deliver and handle correspondence. Our contact form runs through WPForms on this website. Discussion and privacy correspondence also use the email systems through which those messages are handled.
- Commenting and moderation tools: WordPress and wpDiscuz process submitted discussion information, notification choices and associated requests. Public readers receive the portions you choose to publish, such as a comment, display name, website link or attachment.
- Verification providers: Google reCAPTCHA is loaded on article comment forms to help distinguish legitimate interactions from abuse. Google receives information associated with the browser request and verification interaction. Its handling is described in Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Advertising, offers and links to other websites
The site uses Advanced Ads to manage advertising placements. Where an advertisement, sponsored offer or affiliate link is displayed, loading an external creative or resource can send network and request information to its provider before you click. Following an offer or link can also take your browser through an advertising or attribution service to another website. Those services and their resources can use cookies or other identifiers. External services can collect information about activity across websites and over time, depending on the service and your interaction. Their policies and choices govern their own websites and processing.
Aptitude Media Inc. does not separately sell, rent or give visitor contact or subscriber lists to agencies or advertisers, or create or share audiences from health-related information, outside the website integrations described in this policy. Disclosures of online identifiers and activity for advertising can be treated as sale, sharing or targeted advertising under applicable law. Use the choices and request routes below for applicable opt-outs.
Cookies and browser information
WordPress, forms, comments, login features and third-party resources can use cookies or related browser information for functionality, preferences, verification or security. If you use a WordPress account, login-related cookies also support that authenticated session. Reading articles does not require an account. A cookie or identifier need not contain your name to relate to you or your browser.
Your browser provides controls to review, block or delete cookies and other site data. Blocking them can affect forms, logins or other features. Deleting browser data does not itself delete information already sent to our correspondence systems, public comments or another recipient.
Privacy choices
Use Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information or email privacy@aptitude-media.com to submit an applicable sale, sharing or targeted-advertising opt-out. State the website and the choice you want applied. A website account is not required.
The dedicated opt-out page is a manual email request route. Send the email to submit your request. Opening the page or selecting its email link does not itself change cookies, disable tracking scripts or stop advertisements. This WordPress site does not currently provide automatic script suppression in response to Global Privacy Control (GPC). Legacy Do Not Track (DNT) is a different browser signal. Our first-party website handling does not automatically change in response to DNT; third-party services can respond independently under their own policies.
Choose discussion notifications only if you want them. To stop discussion or other email notifications, use the instructions supplied with the message or contact us about the subscription. Newsletter or marketing-email unsubscribe choices, where applicable, are separate from sale/sharing opt-outs and deletion requests. We do not treat merely visiting this policy as consent to unrelated processing.
Retention
Records of contact correspondence, comments, discussion-notification subscriptions, privacy requests and website operations can remain in the systems used to handle those activities after the original interaction. This can include website records, email systems and service-provider records; copies can also remain in backups where they are made. Deleting browser cookies or unsubscribing from messages does not itself delete those records. To ask about information associated with you or request deletion under applicable law, email privacy@aptitude-media.com.
Security and sensitive submissions
The site uses HTTPS for its website connection. No transmission or storage method can guarantee security. Use the privacy mailbox to arrange any necessary next step before sending sensitive verification material; do not attach it to an initial request.
Children and other visitors’ information
The contact and discussion fields described above do not ask for a date of birth. If you believe a child has supplied personal information, or someone has posted your information without permission, contact the privacy mailbox and identify the relevant page or communication without sending additional sensitive details.
State privacy rights
This section describes rights that may apply under California, Nevada, Washington, Virginia, and Maryland law. Your rights depend on your residence, the information and processing involved, whether the relevant law applies to our business, and legal exceptions.
California
Where the California Consumer Privacy Act applies, California residents may request to know and access personal information, including information about its collection, use, disclosure, sale, and sharing; request deletion; correct inaccurate information; opt out of sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising; and limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information. The law also protects against discrimination for exercising applicable rights.
You can email the privacy address above to submit an applicable request, including a sale/sharing opt-out or sensitive-information limitation request. California sale/sharing opt-out requests are not subject to identity verification. Other requests may require verification as permitted by law.
Virginia
Where Virginia’s Consumer Data Protection Act applies, eligible consumers may confirm whether their personal data is processed, access it, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, and obtain a portable copy of personal data they previously provided when processing is automated. They may opt out of targeted advertising, sales of personal data, and profiling used for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. They may also appeal a refusal to act on a request.
Maryland
Where Maryland’s Online Data Privacy Act applies, eligible consumers may confirm processing, access their personal data, correct inaccuracies, request deletion, and obtain a portable copy when processing is automated. They may obtain categories of third parties to which personal data has been disclosed and opt out of targeted advertising, sales, and profiling for solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. They may also appeal a refusal and revoke consent where processing relies on consent covered by that law.
Nevada online privacy
Where Nevada’s online privacy law applies, consumers may submit a verified request directing an operator not to sell covered information it has collected or will collect about them. Send a Nevada sale opt-out request to the privacy email above. Nevada’s definitions and exceptions differ from those in other states.
Washington and Nevada consumer health privacy
Where Washington’s consumer health privacy law applies, consumers may confirm and access covered health data, obtain recipient information, withdraw consent, request deletion, and appeal a refusal. Where Nevada’s consumer health privacy law applies, consumers may request confirmation of collection, sharing or sale, a recipient list, cessation of collection/sharing/sale, deletion, and appeal. Send questions or requests to the same privacy email without medical records, diagnoses, treatment details, or other health information.
Requests, representatives, and appeals
Email privacy@aptitude-media.com and identify this website, your state of residence, and the type of request. A website account is not required to send an email request. Where law permits a representative or authorized agent to act for you, they may use this address and identify their representative capacity. Verification of identity or authority may be needed where permitted by law.
To appeal a decision, email the same address, identify the earlier request, and briefly explain what you want reviewed. Suggested subjects are “Privacy request” or “Privacy appeal”; these exact words are not required.
Do not send passwords, government identifiers, financial account details, identity documents, or health details with your initial request.
Changes to this policy
We will post changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. Where applicable law requires an additional notice or consent for a material change, we will provide that notice or request that consent. Review this page to see the current policy; continued browsing is not a substitute for consent where consent is legally required.
